It had previously been mentioned that filming was to start in January, which Fox said was ‘overly optimistic’.

This must mean that there’s at least a rough script complete, so some initial filming can take place. Good news for 24 fans everywhere.

CraveOnline: Was it a big shock when the Billy Ray script didn’t move forward for the 24 movie?

Jon Cassar: Not completely for me just because, remember, we did eight years of 24 and twenty four episodes a year. We mined a lot of story, and the other thing is, quite honestly, I think it’s difficult. The reality is that it’s difficult to do that story because everyone is caught up to 24. I mean, 24 was an influence as far as I think on movies. I think it influenced stuff like The Bourne Identity. It influenced a movie like Salt. You could’ve gone to any of those movies and made that character Jack Bauer and you had your 24 movie. So, I think we sort of fell behind a little, I guess, if you want to think about it that way because all those stories were done. I think that’s part of it, to try to find something new that isn’t going to be a Bourne Identity, isn’t going to be a Salt, not going to be one of those other movies. It’s tough. Even Taken was very much like 24. He was chasing his daughter. So, we mined all that material all ready. So, find a new thing. Not easy.

CraveOnline: It does seem like 24 invented daughters getting kidnapped.

Jon Cassar: That’s very true, actually. We were very good at it.

CraveOnline: Three times in season one I think.

Jon Cassar: Well, yeah. She was kidnapped for one very long time in season one and then it happened in two, I think, and then in three, maybe, too. I don’t remember. But yeah, you want your hero personally involved. That was always based on that.

CraveOnline: That was part of the fun, too, her getting saved midseason and then wondering what would happen next, right?

Jon Cassar: Yeah, but I think it was brilliant on the writer’s part in that first year. I remember watching that show, and look, everyone was doing special agencies and I did La Femme Nikita with Joel Surnow. We did it years ago, and so everyone was always doing that, but the twist that they put in it was the fact that his daughter was stuck in L.A., downtown at night. That changed everything because I can’t identify with Jack Bauer running around getting terrorists, but I can identify with my son or daughter being lost in downtown L.A. So, that made it all different, and I think that they knew that right away which is why they did it as much as they did. That’s why movies do it, too. You want that personal connection.

Howard Gordon has confirmed that talks about a 24 movie are ongoing.

Speculation that a big-screen adaptation of the show could be produced has been rife for years, but intensified when the television series came to an end last year.

Last year, reports suggested that the first movie script had been scrapped and in February Gordon admitted that the project was on hold.

Gordon has now told The Hollywood Reporter that a film is possible, saying that the talks are “definitely happening”.

“There’s an institutional desire to do it,” he said. “I know Kiefer [Sutherland] wants to do it, we all want to do it. It’s just about finding the right script and not just doing it to do it.”

However, Gordon admitted that he would not be upset if a film project did not work out, saying: “It’s something that I think if it doesn’t happen, I will not be heartbroken. I’m very proud of that [television] run and how it ended. It was very hard to get it to the finish line with some kind of grace in closure. Why mess it up? But if you find the right story…”

This goes along with fellow 24 Alumni, Jon Cassar, who directed seasons 1-7 of 24. He also tweets occasionally that he, nor any other of the 24 cast, know anything about the progress of a 24 movie.

What does this mean?

Well it doesn’t mean the movie isn’t happening. It just means that there’s nothing new to report yet and if there was, the old cast and crew are also in the dark. That’s Hollywood folks.

Former 24 and The Larry Sanders Show star Penny Johnson Jerald will join the cast as the new captain of the 12th Precinct, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively. Jerald will play Victoria Gates, a career-minded cop who spent much of her early career in Internal Affairs. As we previously reported, she will initially be more interested in getting noticed by her superiors and climbing the NYPD’s ranks than doing any real police work.

24 fans will remember Penny Johnson Jerald as the ruthless and antagonizing wife of President David Palmer, Sherry.

Does this mean we will be seeing the Movie in theatres next year, or production will start? Either way, this is great news for 24 enthusiasts all over.
